The Tamaz Beradze Institute of Georgian Studies is an independent, multidisciplinary scientific-research unit of The University of Georgia, dedicated to initiating, supporting, and implementing projects.
In 2022, the Institute planned and held the first international conference, "Georgia and the Caucasus – Past, Present, Future." This annual academic scientific forum brings together researchers from various fields of Caucasiology and Georgian Studies, both from Georgia and abroad.
The main thematic areas of the conference include history, source studies, archaeology, ethnology, anthropology, philology, cultural studies, art history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, digital humanities, economics, international relations, geopolitics, and their subfields. This broad scope gives the scientific forum a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary character, contributing to its significance and scale.
The 5th Annual Conference of 2026 - “Georgia and the Caucasus: Past, Present, Future” aims to provide a comprehensive discussion of the history, culture, and contemporary development of the peoples of Georgia and the Caucasus. This academic gathering will create a platform for researchers, historians, and specialists from various fields to reflect on the historical experience of the region, discuss contemporary challenges, and present visions for the future development of the Caucasus. Within the framework of the conference, special attention will be devoted to the study of the historical heritage of Georgia and the Caucasus, the analysis of regional relations, and the processes that define the significance of this region in the context of the modern world.
The Organizing Committee invites researchers, scholars, and doctoral students to participate in the international scientific conference in the following fields: history, source studies, archaeology, ethnology, anthropology, philology, cultural studies, art history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, digital Georgian Studies, international relations, geopolitics, and their related subfields.
The conference will be held on October 22-23, 2026, in Tbilisi, at the University of Georgia and online.
