About the conference

The modern era and the rapid pace of development of information technologies have raised one important issue, particularly relevant for Georgia: how small nations and countries will promote and preserve their cultural identity; how can local processes, traditions and internal dynamics of development respond to the challenges of the modern global world. In this context, the initiation, support and implementation of international projects focused on Georgian Studies is of great importance not only for Georgia but for the scientific society of the entire world as well.

The 3rd international scientific conference Georgia and the Caucasus: Past, Present, Future is an annual scientific academic forum, which brings together researchers of various directions of Caucasological and Georgian studies working in Georgia and abroad. Accordingly, the sessions during the work of the conference, include important fields of humanities and social sciences: history, source studies, archeology, ethnology, anthropology, philology, cultural studies, art studies, sociology, psychology, philosophy, digital Kartvelology, economics, international relations, geopolitics and their subfields, which gives the scientific event a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary status and determines its scale.

The main goals of the conference are a) highlighting the relevance of the scientific study of Georgian problems in both the local and global context; b) promoting the establishment and development of scientific connections between Georgian and non-Georgian scientists; c) initiation of interdisciplinary and intercultural studies; e) highlighting the relevance of using digital resources in Georgian studies; g) increasing the interest of young researchers in various fields of Georgian Studies.

The organizers of the conference planned for November 1-3, 2024 are the Center for Georgian Studies of Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main (Germany), The University of Georgia Tamaz Beradze Institute of Georgian Studies (Georgia), and Fund for the Promotion of Georgian Studies.

It should be noted that in 2024, within the framework of the conference, sections will be dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Georgian public figure and scientist Rafiel Eristavi, revealing a completely new, hitherto unknown context of his intellectual heritage.
