Engaging New Generations: The Role of House Museums in Contemporary Cultural Tourism
This paper discusses the challenge of house museums, as cultural tourist products, to forge meaningful connections with contemporary audiences in an increasingly digital world. Focusing on preserving personal legacies within these unique cultural institutions, the study examines how innovative strategies, including interpretation, storytelling, and the integration of technology, can enhance visitor experiences and bridge the gap between historical narratives and modern visitors. Through a qualitative case study approach, the research analyzes diverse examples from memorial houses, exploring themes such as audience engagement, interpretation as a conceptual umbrella, and the positioning of * ფონტი ორივე ენისთვის – Calibri, ფონტის ზომა – 11, სტრიქონებს შორის ინტერვალი – 1. these sites within the broader cultural tourism ecosystem. The findings highlight the importance of crafting nuanced narratives that humanize historical figures, leveraging digital technologies for immersive experiences, and fostering strategic collaborations to amplify the appeal and relevance of memorial houses. By redefining their role as dynamic, experiential spaces that resonate with contemporary societal values, these institutions can ensure the legacies they protect continue to inspire and captivate audiences across generations. This document emerges in the context of the Georgian Raphael Eristavi's Anniversary as a contribution to advocating for the restoration and enhancement of his house museum. "
