AN OVERVIEW OF GEORGIAN LEXICOLOGY

The methodical examination and organization of a language's vocabulary is the focus of lexicology, a specialized field within linguistics. It also encompasses the comparative analysis of vocabularies across different languages, typically achieved through the creation of dictionaries. This field of study seeks to clarify the vocabulary by utilizing different approaches and real-world implementations. Lexicology aims to deepen our comprehension of language by providing a complete analysis of its structure, usage, and evolution.

This study aims to investigate the importance and diverse functions of dictionaries in society. Dictionaries serve as more than just reference aids for language learners; they are essential cultural artifacts that record the linguistic legacy and societal transformations throughout history. They function as extensive archives that save and depict the phonological, grammatical, and semantic elements of a language, reflecting the dynamic nature of linguistic change and the socio-cultural factors that shape it.

The main goal of this study is to analyze prominent works on Georgian lexicology. Lexicographers from Georgia have made significant contributions to the recording and conservation of the Georgian language. This paper aims to evaluate notable lexicographic undertakings, particularly those begun by important Georgian researchers, and analyze their effects on the preservation of linguistic legacy and the progress of lexicographic methodology. Through analysis of these works, the study seeks to illuminate the evolution of Georgian lexicography and its significance in preserving Georgia's linguistic and cultural identity.

In addition, the study will outline the fundamental concepts and theories that form the basis of Georgian lexicology. This course will include a comprehensive examination of the theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches used in the development of Georgian dictionaries. This includes an examination of fundamental principles such as lexical semantics, word creation, and the incorporation of historical and cultural context into lexicography practice.

This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the impact of dictionaries on society's progress, with a particular emphasis on Georgian lexicology. The study looks at important works and explains the basic rules of Georgian lexicography to show how important lexicology is for preserving linguistic variation and helping us understand language in its cultural context.
