Abstract

When looking through the sources related to the history of the early medieval ages (IV-XII centuries), one can come across various information about Nakhchivan and these sources have been sufficiently investigated. Among them, “The Book of Conquests” by Abu Muhammad Ahmad ibn Asam al-Kufi, “Conquest of Countries” by Al-Balazuri, “History” by al-Yaqubi, “Subh al-asha fi sinat al-insha” by al-Qalqashandi, “Jami’at-tavarikh” by Fazlullah Rashiduddin, “The History of Aghvan” by Musa Kalankatuklu, “Albanian Chronicle” by Mkhitar Gosh, “The Book of the Paths of Countries” by Al-Istakhri, “News about the Seljuk State” by Sadraddin al-Husseini and many other sources written in Arabic and Persian can be cited. One of the most valuable sources in terms of mastering the history of the medieval ages is considered the manuscript of the work “Miratuz-zaman fi tavarikh-a`yan” (“The Mirror of Time in the History of the Nobles”), written in Arabic. There are different names of the work. In some publications, the authors adopted the name “Mir`atuz-zaman fi tarikh-l a`yan” and wrote the word “tavarikh” in the title of the book as “tarikh”. The plural of the word “tarikh” (history) in Arabic means “tavarikh” (histories).
