Evaluation of the genre of tragedy in the ancient era and the 21st century

Abstract

Drama (Gr. action) originated in ancient Greece. Its origin is connected with religious rituals. Drama exists in two forms - as a fixed text and as a theatrical production (staging, play). The first of them will study literary studies, and the second – theater studies. The reception (perception, reading) of the dramatic text is carried out individually, the reader must imagine the action himself, he can stop during the reading, go back or, on the contrary, go ahead of the events. The audience of the performance is in a completely different situation because each staging is a kind of interpretation of the work, which is carried out by the director, actors and theater apparatus. In addition, the production and reception of the play are collective (the director, actors and many other people participate in its creation, and many spectators participate in the reception) and simultaneous. Dramatic genres are: tragedy, comedy, tragicomedy, farce, mystery, vaudeville, melodrama, audio play and others. Consider each of them.

The origin of the tragedy („goat song“) is connected with cultic-ritual practice. At first, its following variants are found: satire (people dressed in masks and furs preached verses to Dionysus, the god of wine and wine) and dithyramb (a choral cult song in which words, dance, mime and play were closely connected). Today, in the modern era, the genre of tragedy, in contrast to Aristotle's definition, is presented to us with other requirements and spectacular forms. It is possible to say that there is no genre of tragedy. What replaced it and what is written in dramaturgy as the basis of a theatrical performance?!
